The move to the country was a whirlwind for us, yet at the same time was something we had been dreaming of forever. After a cold blustery drive out to the vacant property in 2019, the seed of a dream started in earnest! As soon as we closed on the property in May the dream became a reality of hard work. Shane was working full time, I was working full time. So how do you fit demolition and remodel into life.... you just don't sleep!!!!
Looking back know, it seems surreal. Our little farm looks nothing like it did then. It was months of tearing out, burn piles, picking rocks, long days, but the vision continued. We could see it, taste it and feel it! This was going to be our forever home. That first spring was baby chics and bummer lambs! The coop was first priority. The chics could only stay inside so long! A few weeks later we added eight bummer lambs to the south side of the coop.
One of my favorite places on our farm is the porch! Our builder laughed when I said how big I wanted it to be :) I told him, "I will live out here every day that it is warm enough." Anyone who lives on the Fairfield bench knows that you put your porch on the southeast side. Just in case you didn't know, the wind really likes to howl out here.
My other favorite place to be is the pond. It's not the ocean or the Missouri but it's right out our front door. Does it have algae, weeds, mud on the bottom... yes! But the dock is great for jumping in, the water is cool and refreshing, nothing better to wash away the cares of the day with swim (weather permitting)!
We have two market lambs left. Reach out if you would like to purchase one.
They really are quite spoiled!
We sheared early this year! Harold came the end of January, we just missed that cold snap (-45!!!!)
Currently we have 24 chickens! It may seem like a lot but in reality chicken math is real :) I have to discipline myself not to buy more!!! Most chickens lay 3-4 eggs per week, Marigold here lays 5-6 a week, overacheiver!
